Lossless archive compression

Compression is lossless, so file contents remain unchanged after extraction. Already-compressed files such as JPG, MP4 and many PDFs may not become significantly smaller.

What this ZIP tool does

Kit creates a genuine lossless ZIP archive from the files you select. Your original files are never modified, overwritten, renamed or deleted — the archive is a separate download.

After extraction, files should match the originals byte-for-byte. That is what lossless archive compression means.

When archives barely shrink

Formats such as JPG, MP4, ZIP, RAR, many PDFs and modern Office files are often already compressed. Packaging them in another archive may not reduce size much — and can sometimes increase it slightly because of archive overhead.

If you need a smaller JPG or PNG, use Image Compress. Archive compression and content optimisation are different jobs.
